Compuwood Manufacturing Limited

For over 10 years, Compuwood Manufacturing Limited has been enriching homes and businesses with unique hardwood medallions, signage and other hardwood creations. The Powell River-based company strives to create eye-catching products that add a rustic flair to any space.

Designer and builder George Ouellet is the creative force behind many of the designs. His 25 years in the cabinet and furniture design business prove invaluable when working with such a diverse portfolio.

Compuwood credits their ability to create cost-efficient designs to their in-house design technology. Their wooden signs are created by a customized pantograph, which has the ability to accurately router any text or symbols into cedar boards; while the company’s hardwood medallions are made with computer guided laser technology. The eye-catching creations, which instantly become the focal point of any room, are customized to fit any home, business and budget.

Compuwood Manufacturing provided the BC Showcase with the laser-cut wood inlay that encircles the glass medallion. This ‘Spirit Bear Ring’ tells the story of the Spirit Bear, or Moksgm’ol, the spirit of the rainforest. It is said that the Creator, the Raven, decided to create a reminder of when the world was once covered with ice and snow. To do this, he flew among the black and brown bears, and turned every tenth bear white. He decreed that these bears would live in peace and harmony forever.

Officially known as the Kermode bear, BC’s official animal is a very unique subspecies of the North American black bear, and is identified by a rare recessive gene for white fur. It can be found only on BC’s wild northwest coast.

The Spirit Bear Ring features locally salvaged wood--Maple background, Walnut dark bears, and Holly white bears.
