Interstyle Ceramic & Glass

Interstyle Ceramic & Glass goes far beyond just producing tiles; they are in the business of creating innovation. With a rich tapestry of colours and textures intertwined with precision craftsmanship, the Burnaby-based firm is internationally renowned for elevating everyday spaces.

Brazilian immigrants Ernesto and Georgia Hauner established the family-owned enterprise in 1977, primarily as a ceramic tile distribution and manufacturing company. Over the next decade, the company pioneered the production of modern fused glass tiles from recycled glass. Today, their designs are shipped worldwide and their custom-made mosaic creations are featured in kitchens, bathrooms, lobbies and swimming pools from Los Angeles to Dubai.

Through it all the Interstyle team remains focused on their primary goal: to create awe-inspiring designs through the medium of tile. Their BC location has been a key to their success as global leaders in their industry, underscoring their passionate commitment to their 200 employees and the Burnaby community where they started over thirty years ago.

Interstyle was the designer and supplier for the wall tiles, floor tiles and glass counters found in the six washrooms throughout the BC Showcase, each offering a different design. Innovative manufacturing techniques combine striking blends of coloured glass into the tiles, giving a variety of textures and finishes. The floor tiles’ ‘ice skate pattern’ celebrates winter sport and provides a common theme throughout the BC Showcase.

In addition, Interstyle also graciously provided the disk of ‘slumped’ glass in the centre of the multimedia space. The glass medallion in the middle of the multimedia exhibit space is made of interlocked pieces of ‘slump’ glass. Slumping glass is a process that involves setting glass in an oven for several hours until it sinks into a mold. The mold of glass was then cut with a water jet.
