National Olympic and Paralympic Committees

The Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) is currently made up of 205 National Olympic Committees (NOC) and is split among five continental associations:

  • Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa
  • Pan American Sports Organization
  • Olympic Council of Asia
  • European Olympic Committees
  • Oceania National Olympic Committees

Approximately 80 countries are coming to the 2010 Winter Games, with each country sending anywhere from one to 200 or more athletes. Many National Olympic Committees (NOC) and Paralympic Committees (NPC) send their athletes to the host country a few weeks prior to the Games to train and acclimatize. For example, the Austrian team will be training at Sun Peaks and the Swedish team will train at Mount Washington for the 2010 Winter Games.

Training athletes need everything from sports medicine facilities, massage and therapeutic services to nutritional supplies, rental cars, accommodation and entertainment. And of course they may want to see the sights, opening up opportunities for area tourism and souvenir businesses.

During Games time many NOCs and NPCs will also establish international hospitality houses to serve as home bases for their athletes, officials, and visiting nationals. Often these venues are also used to promote the nation’s culture and economic interests and may be open to the public. To this end, NOCs and NPCs often seek out hosting space, catering services and hospitality agents.

Many bids move through informal processes where the 2010 Commerce Centre connects bidding organizations directly with relevant businesses registered in the 2010 Business Network.

Organizations can connect themselves to Games-related opportunities including those from NOCs and NPCs by registering for 2010 Commerce Centre programs and services and browsing the business opportunities section of this website.
