Publish Date: October 2004

Bell Canada, one of Canada's technology titans and the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games telecommunications partner, has turned to the 2010 Commerce Centre procurement engine to assist its sourcing needs leading up to the games. The move sends a clear signal that British Columbia technology companies and other suppliers interested in helping Bell Canada deliver on its sponsorship commitments should bookmark the 2010 Commerce Centre - today.

"The 2010 Games represent an important part of Bell's strategy to build our business in Western Canada, and that includes seeking partnerships, alliances and relationships with local suppliers who can assist in delivering the best technology possible for the games," says Justin Webb, Vice President, Olympic Services for Bell Canada.

"The 2010 Commerce Centre is a perfect opportunity to access that local talent pool and connect with people who can help." BC's technology sector is one of the fastest growing areas of the provincial economy. Wireless, new media and information communications technology companies are attracting world-class talent, companies and investment that can be leveraged for Olympic success.

Brian Krieger, General Manager of the 2010 Commerce Centre, says Bell's decision to use the Commerce Centre site is just the first of many such announcements in coming months. "Our site has been built to give as many BC businesses as possible open access to Olympic-related opportunities. Bell may be the first to commit to the site, but we fully expect all major sponsors and suppliers to use the site to source the partners, services and materials they need."

The Bell Premier National Partnership was the first major partnership awarded by the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Organizing Committee (VANOC). Bell has been chosen to provide critical communications services required to stage the 2010 Games in Vancouver and Whistler, including a comprehensive telecommunications solution, broadcast support and Internet and portal services.

The sponsorship agreement represents a $90 million contribution in cash, and a total commitment of $200 million from Bell. In making the announcement, Bell Canada Enterprises President and CEO Michael Sabia said, "Our employees and our partners across the country are excited about this unique opportunity to help bring the 2010 Games to all Canadians, making them truly Canada's Games. We're ready to showcase Canadian capabilities to the world."
